Planetary grinders rotate a main turret while the individual grinding heads spin in the opposite direction. You match the head (adapter plate) to the tool holder: 3-head and 4-head planetary systems use different plate geometries, and a plate designed for one will not balance on the other. Choose the plate by your machine make and model, not by the number of heads alone.
The turret rotates around the floor; each head counter-rotates. This cancels swirl marks and produces a flat scratch pattern. The number of heads (usually 3 or 4) and their offset determine the plate bolt pattern.
| System | Typical machines | Tooling shape |
|---|---|---|
| 3-head | Husqvarna PG 450/680, many Chinese 580 mm | Trapezoid or puck, 3 per turret |
| 4-head | Scanmaskin, some Lavina, WerkMaster | Trapezoid or square, 4 per turret |
JOY TECH supplies compatible plates for both. Our R3 round-segment grinding shoes fits standard 3-head Husqvarna-style Redi-Lock systems.
We confirm the adapter and ship the correct shoes. Browse concrete grinding discs category.
A: No. The gearbox and turret geometry are different. You can change the adapter plate, but not the head count.
A: Mostly if they share the holder system (e.g. Redi-Lock). Bolt patterns and offsets vary, so confirm before ordering.
All of them. Running only one or two tools creates flat spots on the turret.
