Cut concrete block with a diamond saw blade—either an angle grinder with a 4-4.5 inch diamond blade, or a circular saw with a 7 inch masonry blade. Score both sides of the block first, then make the final cut from the front. Wear a dust mask and cut wet if possible to control silica.

Dry cutting is faster but creates huge silica dust. Wet cutting (with a water feed on the saw or a spray bottle) suppresses dust and extends blade life. On any interior job, use dust extraction or wet cutting.
Block and cinder block are abrasive and contain light aggregate. A general-purpose segmented diamond blade cuts them cleanly. Avoid continuous-rim blades—they are for tile and will overheat on block.
A: A masonry reciprocating saw blade works for short cuts, but it is slow and leaves rough edges. A diamond saw is much faster.
