A true mirror finish needs three things: a complete grit sequence through 3000, a densifier applied at the right stage, and a final burnishing pass with a white pad. The gloss comes from the surface being perfectly flat and the pores closed; it is not something you can fake with wax on a poorly prepared floor.
No mirror appears on a floor with visible scratches. Complete the metal bond sequence through 200 grit, then the resin phase through 1500. Check with raking light at every stage. If the floor looks clean and uniform after 1500, the 3000 pass will take it to a semi-gloss that burnishing turns into a mirror.
For most floors, apply a lithium silicate densifier after 800 grit resin, when the surface is open enough to absorb the chemical. Let it cure per the manufacturer's time, then continue polishing. Densifier hardens the surface and is the difference between a glossy floor and a floor that looks wet; the chemical fills the microscopic pores that scatter light.
Run diamond resin floor polishing pads through 1500 and 3000, keeping the floor clean between steps. Then finish with a burnishing pad or a white natural-hair pad at low speed, dry. Burnishing compresses and heats the surface slightly, which is what produces the glass-like reflection.
If 3000 grit leaves a flat but dull surface, the pores are still open: apply densifier and repeat 1500-3000. If there are micro-scratches, a grit step was skipped. If the gloss appears only in patches, the passes were uneven or the pads were worn unevenly. Go back one stage and redo the zone evenly rather than polishing over the problem.
A: For most floors, 3000 plus burnishing gives a mirror. Some high-end jobs go to 8000 for a deeper gloss on very hard concrete.
A: Wax gives a temporary shine that dulls and needs maintenance. A properly densified and burnished floor is glossy without coatings.
A> Haze comes from open pores, leftover dust between steps, or a skipped grit. Re-densify and re-polish the last two steps cleanly.
The mirror finish is the reward for disciplined prep: flat grinding, timed densifier, clean resin steps, and a final burnish. Get those four right and your concrete will look like polished stone rather than painted floor.
