Average response time: under 24 hours

Spiral resin pads — a continuous diamond ring that runs outward in a spiral — distribute pressure evenly, shed slurry faster, and last about 20–30% longer on large planetary grinders. Triangle pads, usually eight wedge segments, bite sharper and remove scratches faster on edges, stairs, and small swing machines. Choose spiral for open commercial floors; choose triangles for restoration, edges, and tight areas.
A spiral pad lays a continuous line of diamond across the floor. Because the ring never breaks, the pressure is spread over the whole face, the pad glides rather than grabs, and heat builds slowly. Slurry escapes along the spiral groove instead of being trapped under the pad. On a 680 mm planetary machine covering open warehouse floor, that means fewer pad changes and a more uniform gloss.
Eight separate wedge segments give sharp leading edges. Each segment bites independently, so the pad cuts aggressively even on a slightly uneven floor. That aggressive bite is what restoration contractors want when they need to remove old scratches, coatings, or trowel marks quickly. The trade-off: pressure concentrates at the wedge tips, so triangle pads wear faster on hard concrete and can leave a segmented pattern if the machine is unlevel.
| Factor | Spiral pads | Triangle pads |
|---|---|---|
| Best floor | Open, flat, large area | Edges, stairs, uneven restoration |
| Cut rate | Steady, smooth | Fast initial bite |
| Pad life | Longer, even wear | Shorter, tip wear |
| Gloss uniformity | Excellent | Good if machine is level |
| Slurry handling | Good, grooved escape | Good, gap escape |
Our 8 Triangles Diamond Resin Floor Polishing Pads (JOY-RFP-03) are built for edges and restoration, while the 5''/125mm Spiral Diamond Resin Polishing Pads (JOY-RFP-S2) and 7''/180mm Spiral Diamond Resin Polishing Pads (JOY-RFP-S3) cover mid-size and large walk-behind machines.
Flip a used pad over. Even wear — the whole face reduced by the same amount — means the pressure is right. If only the spiral center or the triangle tips are gone, your holder is too stiff or the machine weight is set too high. If the pad wears on one side, the driver plate is out of parallel. Fix the holder before you burn through another box of pads.
A: Not recommended. They cut at different rates and pressures, which pulls the machine and leaves a patchy gloss. Keep the pattern consistent across all pads on a plate.
A: Spiral. Terrazzo has soft chips exposed; triangle tips can grab and pull chips out. Spiral pads skim over the matrix and polish chips evenly.
A: Unit price is similar, but because spiral pads last longer, the cost per square meter is usually lower on big floors.
Spiral pads are the production choice for open, flat floors where even wear and long life matter. Triangle pads are the restoration choice when aggressive bite on edges and uneven slabs wins the day. Match the pattern to the job, not to what is cheapest on the shelf. Ask JOY TECH which pattern fits your machine and your next floor.
