Yes — you can drill a 150mm hole in a block wall dry with a dry diamond core bit, as long as you drill in short intervals (20-30 seconds on, pause to cool) and use a dust collector. Dry bits are made for brick, block and lightweight concrete. For dense reinforced concrete, use a wet bit instead.
| Material | Drilling Interval | Recommended Bit Speed |
|---|---|---|
| Aerated block | 20-30s on, cool 10s | Medium speed |
| Common brick | 20-30s on, cool 10-15s | Medium speed |
| Dense block | 15-25s on, cool 15s | Low-medium speed |
A: Yes, but mortar is soft and abrasive — the bit may wander in the joint. Try to centre the hole in the block face.
A:A guide plate or a small pilot drill keeps the crown from skating. It is strongly recommended at 150mm.
A: For dense reinforced concrete, precast panels and asphalt. Dry drilling those overheats the bit. See our dry core bits and wet options for the full range.
Dry core bits drill clean holes in brick and block fast — keep the intervals short, the dust under control and the angle square. JOY TECH supplies dry core bits from 25mm to 200mm; contact us for distributor pricing.
