Average response time: under 24 hours

Sample lead time for diamond tools is 7-15 days plus 3-5 days express delivery (DHL/FedEx). Bulk production lead time is 25-35 days for stock-spec blades and 35-45 days for OEM private label, measured from deposit receipt and artwork approval. Add 10-15 days before Chinese New Year (usually late January to mid-February) and 5-10 days in Q4 when factories clear backlog. Sea freight then adds another 25-35 days to the US West Coast. Plan your first order so it lands 60-90 days before you actually need stock on shelves.
A sample diamond saw blades takes 7-10 working days: 1-2 days to mix the segment powder, 1-2 days to cold press and sinter, 1 day to laser weld to the core, 1 day to tension and true, 1 day to pack. If the factory has the same core and bond in stock, samples can ship in 3-5 days. If they need to custom-mix a bond or weld a non-standard bore, add 5-10 days. Express shipping from Xiamen/Shanghai to the US East Coast is 3-5 days door-to-door; to Europe 3-6 days.
Treat the sample clock as starting when the deposit or sample fee is received. Factories queue samples behind bulk orders; paying the sample fee on day 1 is faster than sending it after the PI discussion.
| Order type | Stock spec | OEM logo only | Full custom packaging |

These clocks start the day the factory receives the 30% deposit AND final artwork. A common buyer mistake: deposit on day 1, artwork on day 14, and then complain that the factory 'took 45 days.' The clock does not start until both inputs are in hand.
Several free tricks cut 5-10 days off the clock. First, send the spec sheet and artwork before you negotiate price; the factory can pre-order steel cores and segment powders while you are still discussing the PI. Second, accept partial shipment: have the factory ship half the order when it is ready, and the rest 10 days later. Most factories allow this at no extra charge. Third, use the factory's existing bond rather than asking for a custom mix; this saves 5-10 days of trial batches. Fourth, book the ocean freight in parallel with production, not after. Your forwarder can hold space and pick up cargo within 48 hours of completion.
Ask for a production schedule with milestone photos: segment pressing, laser welding, tensioning, packing. A factory that shares weekly photos has nothing to hide; one that goes radio silent for 30 days is either behind on a different customer's order or substituting materials. Build the photo milestone into the PI as a courtesy clause; it costs the factory nothing and protects you from surprise delays. For diamond core drill bits orders, also confirm when the steel tubes will arrive from the mill; tube lead time is the hidden reason many core-bit orders slip 2 weeks. If a delay does occur, ask for a revised ETA in writing and a partial-shipment option rather than accepting a vague 'soon.' Most factories will prioritize your order once you have a written ETA to hold them to.
The PI lead time assumes no artwork revisions, no sample rework, and no queue delay. Each artwork revision adds 5-10 days. Each sample re-cut adds 7-10 days. Build a 15% buffer into your plan.
Yes. Most factories offer 50% rush surcharge to jump the queue. This is worth it only if you have a customer order riding on the shipment; otherwise it is cheaper to buffer your forecast.
Port to port: 14-20 days to US West Coast, 28-35 days to US East Coast via Panama Canal. Add 5-7 days for customs clearance and 3-7 days for truck delivery to your warehouse.
Air cargo from Shanghai to Los Angeles is 5-7 days door-to-door but costs USD 5-8 per kg. A 200 kg shipment costs USD 1,000-1,600. It makes sense only for high-value SKUs (PCD plates, large core bits) where a stock-out costs more than the freight.
Lead time is a controllable variable once you understand what starts the clock. Sample in 10-15 days, bulk in 30-45 days, ocean in 25-35 days. Add seasonal buffers, send artwork early, and book freight in parallel. Buyers who plan on a 10-week cycle from PO to warehouse never run out of diamond saw blades at the start of construction season.
